A Day in the Life at BNY Mellon

"The prime brokerage client base has some of the smartest, savviest people in the financial world. It's been a pleasure to engage with them and learn this business from absolute pros."

Faces of BNY Mellon: Jamilynn

We believe the greatest investment we make is in our people. Get to know the men and women who make BNY Mellon a world-class financial institution. Meet Jamilynn, a Sales / Relationship Manager with Pershing Prime Services.

My Role

I work on the Sales and Relationship Management team for Pershing Prime Services, a division of Pershing LLC. I am responsible for sales and new business development for Prime Brokerage’s prospective clients, including hedge funds, alternative mutual funds and ETFs in the tri-state area.

Pershing Prime Services is a growing business within not only Pershing, but the broader BNY Mellon enterprise. Growing the Prime Brokerage business is a strategic initiative of Pershing, and BNY Mellon is helping the business reach the goals our team outlined. It is energizing and exciting to work on this team and to see how the little things we do each day help to accomplish the overall goals of the company.

A Day in My Life

Well, for starters, no two days are ever the same! I spend a significant amount of time on prospective clients and fostering those relationships through email, phone and, most importantly, in-person visits with the ultimate goal in mind to establish a prime brokerage relationship with that firm.

Referrals and soft introductions are the name of the game; therefore, I also spend a lot of time with my internal partners here at Pershing and BNY Mellon, educating them on our business and identifying opportunities for existing clients of the firm here in prime brokerage. The most challenging part of the job is staying on top of what is going on in the marketplace and regulatory environment. The prime brokerage client base is some of the savviest, smartest people in the financial world, and we need to be able to engage with them in this type of dialogue and add value in every conversation and meeting we have.

  • The openness of senior leadership to teach, guide and mentor. It is truly something special.
  • Opportunity that’s endless. The future for this organization is so bright, especially with the technological advancements and shifting market trends.

Where I want to be in 5 years

I would like to still be working here at BNY Mellon in a leadership role and managing people.
